"Sephardic Music" movie in the museum

FIRST SCREENING & DIRECTOR'S CHAT

The documentary film "Sephardic Music", which introduces Sephardic Culture through Sephardic Music, will be presented to the audience for the first time at Neve Shalom Synagogue on April 10, 2022 at 15:00.

Filmed under the direction and production of Ömür Şenol, the documentary bears traces of the lives, performances and narratives of musicians, composers, theater actors, writers and academics living in Turkey and contributing to Sephardic music.

In the documentary we shot in Istanbul and Izmir, there is music at the center. The documentary film does not touch on music alone, as it will be lacking in terms of its general fiction and also academically, but also touches on the cultural standpoint of Sephardic Jews, and carries traces of Sephardic Jews' own language, words, music and culture.

The first screening of the documentary, where the names of those related to music in general, Judeo-Spanish language or Sephardic music are included, such as Janet/Jak Esim, İzzet Bana, Karen Gerson Şarhon, Renan Koen, Sami Levi, Mehtap Demir, Sara Pardo, Siren Bora, Linet Şaul, Lori Şen, Nino Varon, will be presented to the audience on Sunday, April10 at the Neve Shalom Synagogue, located in the same complex as the Museum of Turkish Jews.

This documentary, which will present you with content from the performances, lives and academic narratives of our artists, will be screened in other countries besides Turkey.

The director and producer of the film, Ömür Şenol, emphasized that while shooting the documentary, the aim was not to tell the music of musicians who contributed to Sephardic Music, the narratives of writers and academics only to the owners and families of this culture, but to present unheard melodies and stories to those who do not know about this culture, in the light of truth and truth. .

This event, in which Ömür Şenol will also be present, will continue with a short chat meeting with him after the screening.
