Description

We wish Rosh Hashanah to bring health, happiness and blessings to you and your family.

On the feast days of Rosh Hashanah (New Year) and Yom Kippur (Atonement), male Jews (congregation members participating in prayer) were given cards that determined which seat they would sit in.

This synagogue card in the museum archive is ticket number 529, printed by Tofre Begodim (Schneidertempel) in 5721 (1961). The stamp belonging to Tofre Begodim can be seen on the back of the ticket. On this printed cardboard, "para ombres" (for men) is written in Judeo Spanish.

Due to the higher population in the 1960s, there was a need for an alternative place for prayer on special feast days. The Unyon Franses (Union Francaise) building, built by Alexandre Vallauri in 1896 on Meşrutiyet Caddesi in Beyoğlu, was also rented and prayers were performed. The document was given to the museum by Rabbi Isak Haleva.
